Well it was bound to happen at least once(well really twice) but after no threat of bad weather last year for the Angier Cruise-In, we had to postpone Friday Night’s Cruise-in as well as the first ever Cooley’s Cruise-In in Fuquay Saturday Night. But we are already in the process of scheduling make-up dates for both events and hopefully will have both dates solidified soon. We will post it here as well as our Facebook page, which if you are not on our page be sure to go to Facebook and “Like” us.
Stay tuned for more information about these make-up dates once we have them taken care of.
After a having a successful 2010 Angier Cruise-In series, the 2011 edition kicked off this past Friday evening on a cold windy night. Although some folks stayed away due to the weather and other already scheduled events, we still had a nice showing with some beautiful old cars, trucks, and hot rods. The official restaurant of the Angier Cruise-In “Cooley’s Too” kept the car owners and spectators fed with great food and beverages. Butch Halpin(Carolina Sounds Beach Show) played his usual wonderful mix of beach, boogie, and classic songs, and Rickie Lipscomb(FotozbyRickie) took the professional pictures that you will see. A BIG THANK YOU to Tim Taylor, Doug King, and Manju Parten for all of your help with putting the event on and taking it down. And we cannot forget our wonderful sponsors who make this event a possibility each month, and you are the best!
Now that the April event is in the books it is time to turn our attention to the May Cruise-In’s….yes that’s right we are having”2″ Cruise-In’s in May. The regular Angier Cruise-In will be Friday May 13th from 5:30-8:30 pm….but for the first time we are having a Cruise-In in Fuquay-Varina called the “Cooley’s Cruise-In” and it will be Saturday May14th from 6-9pm at Cooley’s Restaurant in downtown Fuquay Varina. The “Cooley’s Cruise-In’s” will be held once a month from May through October. Be sure to check the front of the website for the flyer and dates for each of these events as well as the address for the location of both.
We look forward to a great year with both the Angier Cruise-In as well as the Cooley’s Cruise-In’s….and of course both of these events are put together to benefit the Make A Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina. So please plan to be at some of these events whether you have an old classic or just want to come out for some family fun. and we look forward to seeing and meeting you.
We hope you are by now….The folks at the Angier Cruise-In are making final preparations for the big night and Grand Finale of 2010 Angier Cruise-In season. And what a great year it has been so far, but Friday night Oct 1st from 5-9pm in downtown Angier on Broad St. will be a night folks talk about for awhile.
We have some big time talent lined up with the Sand Band, Terri Gore, Gary Brown, Doug Manning performing, along with Butch Halpin(Cool Beach 105.3 fm) and Big John Ruth(102.9 fm) handling the DJ duties. Look at those names real close, and you will see that is truly beach music royalty and they will all be in Angier on the same night. And we have it on good faith that several more folks will show up and sing as well.
The Bass Lake Shag Club will show up and do a shag demonstration for folks who are wanting to learn this great dance…. and we also have Austin Pope and Karlee Martin who just happen to be the Junior 1 National Division and Grand National Champions and they will also put on a shag demonstration that is quite unlike you have seen.
We will raffling off the “Big Block Motor Grill”(some 1$tickets remain and will be sold that night) as well as 100$gift certificate, and 50$ cash prize. We will have bbq sandwiches(done by Cooley’s Too) and cole slaw(done by Simon’z Restaurant) in the depot building for sale for 3$ and sweet tea. All of the entertainment will be on the gazebo stage beside the depot….Big John Ruth will set up in the parking lot where normally have our Cruise-In’s so please feel free to still park there as well.
Last but not least the Angier based and our local charity of choice the To Make a Child Smile Foundation will set up a booth for the 50/50 raffle and have bottle water for sale as well. The Angier based Lion’s Club will do a “cake walk” for the chance to win some tasty desserts. Proceeds from the raffle and bbq sales will benefit the Make A Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina, and we are so proud to have represented them this year.
Folks this is truly a family fun evening with something for everyone and we hopeyou come out and have a good time and support all these great foundations and just have an overall great time. And Thank You so much for your support of the Angier Cruise-In this year
Yeah ok that is a cheesy title for this article but I am running out of ideas here… Yes it was hot outside until the sun did us a favor and went down, but it was “Hott” in other ways especially with tons of classic cars and trucks, great music, and just an enormous amount of people walking around checking out everything. Although it was the start of the Labor Day weekend, it looks like people decided to stick around town and kick off their weekend with the Angier Cruise-In, and for that we are grateful more than you know.
The “Little Man of Beach Music” Joey Warren kept the crowd stoked with great music, and even more entertainment and he showed why he is one of thr best in the business. Gary Brown once again stopped by and sang some of his award winning hits, and the downtown restaurants Cooley’s Too and Simon’z reported that they were busy as well with folks from the Cruise-In. Thank You to all of our sponsors, because without you none of this would be possible. Also once again thank you to Manju Parten, Samantha Karger, Melody Adams, Doug King, Tim Taylor, and Kerry Marston(and your boys) for your help in setting up and taking down, as well as the photography.
Now onto the business at hand, and that would be the Grand Finale of the 2010 Angier Cruise-In season on October 1st from 5-9pm in downtown Angier on Broad St. We are raffling off a gas grill in the form of a big block motor(tickets are just a 1$) and are available at Cooley’s Too and Simon’z restaurants or you can call Jason Parten at 919-753-6117. Also that night we will have a bbq dinner at the Depot building, and for the tons of entertainment we will have The Sand Band, Terri Gore, Gary Brown, Doug Manning, and Butch Halpin performing in the gazebo, so bring your lawn chairs and dancing shoes and have a good time. Oh I forgot to mention that we want to have the biggest turnout of classics that we have ever had so tell all of your friends to cmon to the Angier Cruise-In on October 1st and let’s celebrate what has been a great year of Cruise-In’s!
Although we did not have the number of cars that we have had in the past at the Angier Cruise-In due to the heat and impending rain, we still had a wonderful turnout not only with classic cars, but with the number of people walking around to see the fine rides. If you have never been to one of the shows then you better hurry, because we only have two left for 2010…September 3rd and October 1st.
As for the August Cruise-In many sincere thank you’s go out to JC Wood for the wonderful music and all the many nice things he had to say about the event in general, Butch Halpin and Gary Brown for the singing, Brandon Gaines, Tim Taylor, Doug King, Samantha Karger, Manju Parten, and Melody Adams for all of your generous help to pull this event off. Thank you to all the car clubs who once again showed up in great numbers to support this event as you do every month. And last but not least THANK YOU to all of the great sponsors who make this event possible, without you none of this would be possible.
Over the next two month’s we have some great things planned for the Angier Cruise-In starting with the Sept 3rd show, as we are pleased to announce that the “little man of beach music” Joey Warren will be our DJ. Joey has his award winning show on 94.9fm The Surf in North Myrtle Beach, as well as several other stations across the Carolinas.
The Grand Finale will be our Oct 1st show, as not only do we have our regular Cruise-In scheduled but we will have the Sand Band in attendance playing down at the gazebo, and we will have a bbq benefit in the Depot building during the show. As an added bonus we will be raffling off a gas grill in the shape of a Chevy big block motor(will be on display at the Sept show) and the tickets for that are a 1$, and tickets for the bbq will be 7$. All the proceeds from this event will benefit the Make A Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina.
